Streamlining Content Workflows
The Challenge:
At The Motley Fool, Repeatables are proven investing article formats that can be republished monthly — for example, "3 Top Stocks to Buy in [Month]" or "Where Will Nvidia Be in 5 Years?" They’re high-ROI, reliable content pieces designed to drive traffic and subscriptions at scale.
But the system for claiming them? Not so scalable. Writers had to rush into a shared Google Sheet to claim headlines, often getting locked out or accidentally writing over each other’s entries. The chaos led to confusion, missed opportunities, and declining volume and profitability.
The Solution:
I collaborated with my team of content strategists to overhaul the process. Here's what we did:
Designed a new Jira workflow where writers could “claim” articles by joining cards on a Kanban board organized by financial sector.
Built an Airtable dashboard that fed headline data into Jira in real time, streamlining coordination between strategists and writers.
Piloted the new workflow with internal stakeholders and a small group of writers before expanding it to the full contributor base of 100+.
Results:
✅ Increased Repeatables article volume by 20%
📈 Boosted article profitability by 22%
🗣️ Received overwhelmingly positive feedback from writers
💬 “The Google Sheets system was high-stress, and at times completely unscalable. The Jira claiming system is clean, easy to understand, and makes so much more sense.”
